The colors of the Lithuanian flag were inspired by traditional folk costumes and nature. In particular, yellow symbolizes Baltic amber and abundant grains, representing the country's prosperity.
The flag was first adopted upon independence in 1918, banned during the Soviet occupation, and then reinstated as the official flag in 1988. Every year on July 6th, Flag Day, various commemorative events are held throughout the country.
