Since ancient times, Djibouti has served as a trade hub connecting Africa and Arabia. Today, it plays a vital role as the primary trade port for Ethiopia and hosts military bases for several countries.
Adopted upon independence in 1977, the colors of the flag each hold significance. Light blue represents the Issa people, green represents the Afar people, the white triangle symbolizes peace, and the red star represents national unity.
