It's a special tree where you write your wishes on paper and hang them on the branches. It's commonly seen during the Japanese Tanabata festival.

People from around the world write their wishes on slips of paper and tie them to the tree, hoping their dreams will come true. A similar custom can be seen at Korean temples and during temple stays.
